Claudia Mens

Claudia (1957) knew young that she wanted to be an interior designer. Yet she chose to study social studies and worked as a study and career counselor. That proved a great orientation to the world and fed her interest in the lives of other people. But it was not fulfilling and led to study the decisive step of Architectural Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in The Netherland, and then to finish the post-graduate Master Environmental Design.

Together with her partner and type designer Petr van Blokland, she started her design studio in 1982. Initiated at the kitchen table in The Hague and since 2006 in custom made architecture (by CEPEZED) in Delft, the studio has been operating under the name Buro Petr van Blokland + Claudia Mens

The design studio

Over the years, many design projects – small and large – have been succeeded successfully, from interior designs for individuals to corporate identities and assignments for housing associations and the Ministry of Housing, for consult in the field of color and materials.

With pleasure she worked with a staff of five designers on these projects . “The design studio was actually one big family and Claudia is the bridge”, friends and colleagues often said.
